Police Arrest Arrested For Downloading Bollywood Movies A home-based police officer in Rajasthan has been arrested for allegedly downloading and watching pirated films on his personal phone, according to a media report. The officer, who is attached to the District and Sessions Court in Barmer, was picked up by officials of anti-piracy unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from his residence on Tuesday morning. The cop had allegedly downloaded and watched six movies which were illegally uploaded for viewing on mobile phones during the past few months. He had downloaded these films from leading Bollywood websites such as Tpone4u and 1movies.com. Officials said the cop was a regular visitor to these websites and had a habit of downloading movies at night after he went home from work. He has been booked under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC, besides sections 66A and 67 of the Copyright Act, officials added. The officer was produced in a local court which remanded him in CBI custody till May 4 as it felt that further investigation into the matter warranted it. A CBI official said they were investigating how many other officers from different police stations might have been involved in uploading pirated content online. "We are also checking if he had some connection with any of the site operators who uploaded these films," the official said. Police officers are strictly barred from downloading movies online, though many do so due to rampant availability of illegal content on mobile phones that are easy to carry around. A few months ago, a police officer in southeast Delhi was caught watching pirated content on his phone. Widespread availability of pirated content has become a cause of concern for authorities who have sought legal opinion on whether making or viewing such content was an offence which attracts punishment. Over 50 online film streaming websites are registered in India with most of them being operated from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, according to industry officials. Recently, the government had warned people against watching pirated content. According to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), most Indian mobile phones were sold without any security features, including for security against spying. "There is no fool-proof system available in the market to detect spyware, Trojan Horses or other malware or viruses. All leading brands of mobiles, smart phones and tablets are not virus free and prone to spyware attack," said BIS. "A police officer who is arrested for watching pirated content on his phone must be given some leniency as he was already under scanner for his corrupt practices, including taking bribes from swindlers who have come up with spurious mails claiming that they have huge amounts of money which they owe to him. cfa1e77820
